The 'Whittlesea Courthouse' Visitor Information Centre is a volunteer service, dedicated to providing tourist information for visitors to the City of Whittlesea (and surrounding districts) and situated in Victoria, Australia. The Centre is run entirely by volunteers under direction of the Whittlesea Court House Association Incorporated; with generous assistance from the City of Whittlesea Council. It provides diverse information to the Whittlesea Township community, the City of Whittlesea (and surrounding districts) and to the broader visitor population. Open 7 days a week from 9am – 5pm (except New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Christmas Day) it helps support many attractions and features which the region has to offer.

The Information Centre resides in a historic Courthouse building (Circa 1864) which was formerly (until 1989) the Whittlesea Court of Petty Sessions. After many idle years and with ongoing community support, this building was beautifully restored and re-opened to the public in 1996, as a Tourist/Visitor Information Centre. The now heritage listed building is located at 74 Church Street, Whittlesea (corner Church and Beech Streets) in the City of Whittlesea’s North Ward district.

The Whittlesea Township is the gateway to a very interesting, diverse and beautiful part of Victoria with tranquil parks, rolling hills to the north, Australian fauna and flora – in natural surroundings and many interesting historical features. The area also provides some adventurous activities including a fun theme park and horse riding. It has a very relaxing country-style atmosphere, with a vast range of modern amenities and facilities to match which include nurseries, local produce and many dining/entertainment venues to enjoy.

For anyone coming to Melbourne, take the time to travel just 40 kilometres due north of Melbourne CBD (along Plenty Road & just one hour’s drive) to this very pretty historical area in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. Come to the picturesque Courthouse setting – featuring a historic Police Lock-up and take in the sight of its beautiful rose garden. Enjoy ‘time out’ from the hustle and bustle of City life and be sure of a very warm welcome from a dedicated team of volunteers, willing to provide all the information available (that you may require) making your visit an enjoyable and memorable one.
